| Customer Reviews: Satisfactory only April 23, 2010 kennymo (Mount Kisco, NY) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Yes I'm a picky consumer. And I did not expect this to be something that would become an estate heirloom or something. And its manufatured well enough. The instructions for assembly were thorough and sensible. All parts needed were included and fit together correctly (one drawer side needed a little drilling by me to correct two misaligned through-holes which, being a mechanic, I had no problem handling but they do have a parts replacement policy to cover this sort of thing). Assembly took longer than advertised, taking me almost five hours in total. You need to take your time because if you rush it you're gonna strip screwholes very easily with laminated particle boards or do other damage as you have to re-do parts that you mis-install, etc. - you get the idea. I took my time and - hats off to mftr - the finished product looks and works as advertised, is solid, supports my new latex mattress very well and should last a long time. Tell you what - the combo of this bed and mattress is way heavy! I was able to move it on my slate tile floor pretty easily before adding the mattress though. Its pretty tall too - which I like though. With my 9" mattress its a total of 31" high from the floor to top of mattress. Drawer slides have good fit and rolling smoothness. Laminate finish (espresso color) is thin and was worn looking at some edges out of the box; nicks and scratches easily. Drawer bottoms are pressed fiberboard - if they get wet, they're in trouble, but that shouldn't happen. All in all, I'm very satisfied. For the price, I thought the laminate finish should have been better.
Junk, avoid at all costs. April 17, 2010 E. Gordon (Arcata, CA, US) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is particle board with a kind of cheap "painted wood" (I wouldn't call it "laminate", that implies at least some protection - this has none). The painted on wood chips at the slightest contact, if it's not chipped everywhere by the time you get it put together it will be within a couple weeks of use (e.g. take some shoes in and out of the drawers). If you're unlucky enough like me to decide to live with a few chips and throw away the packaging and then a week later realize there are even more chips accumulating and you should return it, you're out of luck because without the packaging it's impossible to return. I wish I would have bit the bullet and bought a real wood bed in the first place, now I've wasted $500 + the cost of dumping it. Prepac should be ashamed to sell this junk and Amazon should stop carrying it.
So much more storage space! March 24, 2010 Kari M. Bowers 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This bed is pretty solid and almost impossible to move after you've put it together! The drawers are spacious and hold plenty of clothes, we love it!
