Customer Reviews: Good drive but not perfect April 9, 2010 W. M. Kohler (Menlo Park, CA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
When I connect this drive to the FW400 firewire port on my iMac with no external power supply, the drive works fine. The drive wasn't recognized by my iMac when I connected it to the iMac FW800 port. Maybe it needs an external power supply to run at 800 Mbit speed. Since I use the drive only for Time Machine backups, I don't mind using FW400 instead of FW800. I haven't tried using the USB port on the drive. I like the appearance of the drive, and I like not having to use an external power supply. Oh, did I mention the drive is very quiet? I can't hear it running at all.

DO NOT BUT THIS DRIVE IF YOU INTEND ON USING IT FOR BOTH MACS AND WINDOWS.
Although the drive has a USB port don't expect to work through that connection. I've plugged this drive into several (7) different computers (Macbook Pros, iMacs, Windows laptops, Windows desktops) none of which will work through the USB connection. All I get is a beeping noise... I called tech support and they tell me that the not enough power is being delivered to the drive... No other help was offered. They tell me that I'd need to get a AC adapter for the drive. Well that defeats the purpose of it being "mini" and "portable" wouldn't it?
The drive works fine through a Firewire connection. Since Firewire is scarce on most Windows computers out there, stay away from this drive if you intend to use it for both like I had intended. Either way, I still do not recommend this drive.

I had to wait a while for the order to fulfill, but the wait was worth the time. The driver performs suberbly. I use it to tote Final Cut files and media to get "work at home days" without breaking my back carrying this little G's bigger brother. Seems to run fine on the firewire power.
